For the Man Who Hated Christmas
by Nancy W. Gavin

It's just a small, white envelope stuck among the branches of our Christmas tree. No name, no identification, no inscription. It has peeked through the branches of our tree for the past ten years or so.

It all began because my husband Mike hated Christmas--oh, not the true meaning of Christmas, but the commercial aspects of it--overspending... the frantic running around at the last minute to get a tie for Uncle Harry and the dusting powder for Grandma---the gifts given in desperation because you couldn't think of anything else.

Knowing he felt this way, I decided one year to bypass the usual shirts, sweaters, ties and so forth. I reached for something special just for Mike. The inspiration came in an unusual way.

Our son Kevin, who was 12 that year, was wrestling at the junior level at the school he attended; and shortly before Christmas, there was a non-league match against a team sponsored by an inner-city church. These youngsters, dressed in sneakers so ragged that shoestrings seemed to be the only thing holding them together, presented a sharp contrast to our boys in their spiffy blue and gold uniforms and sparkling new wrestling shoes. As the match began, I was alarmed to see that the other team was wrestling without headgear, a kind of light helmet designed to protect a wrestler's ears.

It was a luxury the ragtag team obviously could not afford. Well, we ended up walloping them. We took every weight class. And as each of their boys got up from the mat, he swaggered around in his tatters with false bravado, a kind of street pride that couldn't acknowledge defeat.

Mike, seated beside me, shook his head sadly, "I wish just one of them could have won," he said. "They have a lot of potential, but losing like this could take the heart right out of them." Mike loved kids - all kids - and he knew them, having coached little league football, baseball and lacrosse. That's when the idea for his present came. That afternoon, I went to a local sporting goods store and bought an assortment of wrestling headgear and shoes and sent them anonymously to the inner-city church. On Christmas Eve, I placed the envelope on the tree, the note inside telling Mike what I had done and that this was his gift from me. His smile was the brightest thing about Christmas that year and in succeeding years. For each Christmas, I followed the tradition--one year sending a group of mentally handicapped youngsters to a hockey game, another year a check to a pair of elderly brothers whose home had burned to the ground the week before Christmas, and on and on.

The envelope became the highlight of our Christmas. It was always the last thing opened on Christmas morning and our children, ignoring their new toys, would stand with wide-eyed anticipation as their dad lifted the envelope from the tree to reveal its contents.

As the children grew, the toys gave way to more practical presents, but the envelope never lost its allure. The story doesn't end there.

You see, we lost Mike last year due to dreaded cancer. When Christmas rolled around, I was still so wrapped in grief that I barely got the tree up. But Christmas Eve found me placing an envelope on the tree, and in the morning, it was joined by three more.

Each of our children, unbeknownst to the others, had placed an envelope on the tree for their dad. The tradition has grown and someday will expand even further with our grandchildren standing to take down the envelope.

Mike's spirit, like the Christmas spirit will always be with us.

my dear 'friend'/whoever/anonymous-shitface,

could you at least use a name when commenting on my blog entry?! 8D

be a brave little girl/boy/human-beings...! \o/

Do I even know you in the first place?
Why are you even calling me by a nick my OTHER friends call me by? :D

whoever-this-random-babe/dude-is reply:

"hi suki, i think he lost his way when he was with his class, his groupie. it was a whole lot of bad influence that was pulling him all the way to the negative side. he may look happy to you on the outside yes. but on the inside, you never know how bad and dark his soul has already been affected. all mainly because of the type of friends he had. You see, good friends respect one another. Respect doesn't only mean say thank you or not being rude. But respect means you don't say crude remarks about your friend's gf/bf. You don't tell your friend to turn your back on his partner. Thats not respect. Friends don't share videos of sexual acts and encourage each other. Friends don't go around to Geylang to look at those prostitutes. If thats what you call friends, I think its better not to have those kind of friends right? I am not saying its you. im saying his mates. good friends should respect one anothers gf bf and respect each others religion. and good friends don't talk dirty about their sex life openly. thats confidential don't you agree? See, thats why he started pulling away from you people. Cos he realised its making his soul unclean. Please dont take it to heart, i am not directing this to you. i am just trying to explain to you the reason for his departure from the class.

Thanks. "

"Get this fact into your brain.

My dearest friend, I have never gave up on you.

It was you who did so....! Our friendship...!

You changed your number, no one knew where you fucking are anymore....!

*Guess what? You want me to STALK you? 8D

Ask yourself this question, who were the ones who actually did this sexual talk?
Did the girls from Kitchenette and SGA do so? What about me?

If we did, I'm probably screwing one of the girls happily, or maybe you if I'm/was desperate.
8D

Ask yourself another question, who went to ask KAK which Hotel 81 to go to?
Please do not pretend I did not see you asking her for "ADVICE", what a hypocrite.

Remember to use a condom, my friend! \o/"

To my dearest bibik~

Your comment is real appreciated...!!!!! >_< thank you!

"Ahh. Amelia, this guy was once the talent of the class. Surely he did impacted the class in one ways or another and I am so very sure why you'd miss him even after he "disappeared" for probably various reasons.

Gees, I didn't know the class has causes the guy's soul to bet dirty. Maybe 'cause the class sing and cheered too much. Or maybe because the classmates are just being normal teenagers whose curiosity outshines every other aspects. Oh boy, Amelia. Its sad that this had to happen. The once cheerful (oh well, sadly no one knows that hes sad inside) guy has changed for the better is some other funny way.

-

Itsokay, The rest is still there for you, no matter what. "

gosh! thank you so much....!!!!!!!!!!!! >_<

You are The High Priestess

Science, Wisdom, Knowledge, Education.

The High Priestess is the card of knowledge, instinctual, supernatural, secret knowledge. She holds scrolls of arcane information that she might, or might not reveal to you. The moon crown on her head as well as the crescent by her foot indicates her willingness to illuminate what you otherwise might not see, reveal the secrets you need to know. The High Priestess is also associated with the moon however and can also indicate change or fluxuation, particularily when it comes to your moods.

- finishing up macF casual shoots. :3
:hearts: to all of my lovely partner, saikang prus photographers. wah seh. 8D we were dang crazy one! :D the shoot was even spread out over 2 shoots due to certain unforseen circumstances. *still vetting the pics for upload...! :)

vetted russian text, produced vouchers, monthly reports, clean up the messy office, packed this packed that... :(

- jogging
amidst my busy schedule, I've decided to pick up jogging about 3 weeks back...! I want to lose weight and of course to do it by beginning to jog...! *i stopped for almost a year...!*

I'VE ALSO GOT A LOVELY JOGGING PARTNER TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!~

I've set most of my hyperactive songs in a particular playlist which I will play while jogging...! songs probably like 'Hot 'N Cold' by Katy Perry, 'All Star' by Smash Mouth, 'Voulez-Vous' by Mamma Mia OST/Cast, 'Rockin Station' from the Gravitation anime etc, etc...! These songs really make me hype to "carry on" with my jogging...! 8D *srsly, i've got no stamina man.... ;_;

but out of curiosity, I would like to know YOUR jogging playlist...! What are the few songs that really motivates you to carry on!

---

the above entry summarises all I've NOT been writing properly for the last few weeks. :P

keeping to himself he plays the game

I think I just had too much on my plate for this month.

I need a breather soon.

---

There was a man, a lonely man
Who lost his love through his indifference
A heart that cared, that went unshared
Until it died in his silence

And Solitaire's the only game in town
And every road that takes him, takes him down
And by himself, it's easy to pretend
He'll never love again

And keeping to himself he plays the game
Without her love it always ends the same
While life goes on around him everywhere
He's playing Solitaire

Another day, a lonely day
So much to say that goes unspoken
And through the night, his sleepless nights
His eyes are closed, his heart is broken

And Solitaire's the only game in town
And every road that takes him, takes him down
And by himself it's easy to pretend
She's coming back again

And keeping to himself he plays the game
Without her love it always ends the same
While life goes on around him everywhere
He's playing Solitaire

A little hope, goes up in smoke
Just how it goes, goes without saying
Solitaireee
And by himself it's easy to pretend
He'll never love again
Ohhh

And keeping to himself he plays the game
Without her love it always ends the same
While life goes on around him everywhere
He's playing Solitaire
Solitaire, solitaire
